Jafaican arrives in Australian cinemas
Following its world premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival, Jafaican continued its Australian journey with a cinema release on 14 May 2025, taking Fredi Nwaka’s crime comedy beyond the festival and onto cinema screens.
The release followed a memorable Gold Coast appearance by Nwaka and leading actor Peter Andre. Australian coverage also highlighted a special screening at New Farm Cinemas in Brisbane on 14 May, giving audiences another opportunity to discover the film on the big screen.
Written and directed by Nwaka, Jafaican follows Gazza, a small-time London crook played by Andre, whose grandmother’s care costs leave him desperately searching for £35,000. With just 21 days to find the money, a chance encounter sets him on a dangerous course from London to Jamaica. What begins as a plan to help his family becomes an increasingly complicated scramble to keep his scheme from unravelling.
The cast brings together Peter Andre, Wil Johnson, Oliver Samuels, Jamie Lomas and Sizzla, combining British screen talent with prominent Jamaican performers.
For Jafaican, the Australian release marked the next step in an international theatrical journey. After the red carpet and festival celebrations, the focus turned to sharing the film with cinema audiences ahead of its UK and Ireland release later that month.
