Jafaican arrives in UK and Irish cinemas with a London VIP celebration

Jafaican reached Odeon cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 20 May 2025, bringing Fredi Nwaka’s crime comedy to audiences closer to its London roots following its Australian premiere and cinema release.

The occasion was marked by a VIP screening in London, where Nwaka joined cast members including Peter Andre and Wil Johnson. Reporting from the event, The Gleaner spoke with the director and stars about the film, its Jamaican locations and the experience of bringing the story to the screen.

For Andre, who plays Gary “Gazza” Buckle, filming in Jamaica fulfilled a long-standing ambition to visit the island. At the London screening, he spoke about his excitement at working alongside Oliver Samuels and Sizzla, as well as his enjoyment of the food during the production.

The cinema experience also gave audiences a chance to hear from the filmmakers. Coverage of the UK screenings confirmed that a filmed Q&A with Andre and Nwaka was shown, offering further insight into their collaboration and the film.

Moving between London and Jamaica, Jafaican follows a desperate attempt to raise money for Gazza’s grandmother’s care. A risky scheme draws him into unfamiliar territory, where every decision brings fresh complications.

The UK and Ireland release marked another chapter in the film’s international journey, connecting its British and Jamaican story with cinema audiences after its launch in Australia.
